February  7th 2008... PETER CARLILE

Based in Whitchurch, Shropshire, Peter is a relative newcomer to country music shows though no stranger to public performances. Since 1970 he has mainly worked in a duo in pubs etc. giving caberet type shows but has always included country numbers. He has concentrated more on country as a solo artiste for the last six months or so but continues with his duo partner Phil Evans as required.

A singer / guitarist, he has a powerful, pleasant voice getting most of his songs from the catalogues of New Country singers and bands, but throwing in the occasional classic number.  His favourite singer is Garth Brooks; so it was no surprise that he included ten of Garth's songs in his show tonight. Amongst them were, Two Pina Coladas, Two Of A Kind Workin' On A Full House, Papa Loved Mama, Wild Horses, Friends In Low Places and If Tomorrow Never Comes, all of which topped the American  Country charts . Other modern material included, Keith Urban's, But For The Grace Of God and Making Memories Of Us, Lonestar's, Tell Her, What About Now, and the bluesy, Saturday Night, Steve Holy's, Blue Moon, Diamond Rio's, One More Day and Alan Jackson's, It's 5 O'clock Somewhere.

Blasts from the past included  Don Gibson's, O Lonesome Me, Don Williams', You're My Best Friend, Neil Diamond's, Sweet Caroline, which was a country charter for one, Anthony Armstrong Jones and Claud Gray, Hound Dog, a No 1 country hit for Elvis, Oh Pretty Woman, a charter for both Roy Orbison and Arlene Harden, to conclude an evening of super entertainment, The beatles, Ob La Di, Ob La Da.

During the evening  Peter was immaculately dressed, having a different outfit for each of the three acts. His show was well appreciated by everyone and it would be no surprise to see him back here at the Northern Renegades Country Music Club.
