August 13th 2009 DROVER
Following the success of their concert here last year, it was inevitable that Dave and Pat would be invited back to entertain us once again, and what a superb show they gave us. As before they included various types of country music, lots of popular songs and others rarely heard here. Amongst those regularly performed at our club were George Straight's, I Just Want To Dance With You, Hal Ketchum's, Past The Point Of Rescue, Don Williams', I Recall A Gypsy Woman, Merle Haggard's, Okie From Muskogee and Today I Started Loving You Again, John Denver's, Take Me Home Country Roads and Don Gibson's, Sea Of Heartbreak. Others not so common included The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's, Face On The Cutting Room Floor, Trisha Yearwood's, It's All Right, Ian and Sylvia's, Someday Soon, Chuck Berry's, Johnny B Good, which incidentally was a no 1 Country hit in 1969 for Buck Owen's, and a couple of Dave's self penned instrumentals. Dancer's were kept busy all evening and others had plenty to sing along to; so there was total enjoyment all round. With great performances like this, I am sure we will be seeing Dave and Pat again some time in the future. Cyril Insley July 17th 2008 DROVERMaking their first foray into this part of the Midlands and making their inaugural concert at our club, Dave and Pat immediately won our members over with their first song, Blackhawk's, One More Heartache
Dave has been playing guitar since he was fourteen and now confesses to being an avid collector of the instrument, he had always been involved with middle of the road music until four years ago he met Pat, at which time was brought them together and they formed, DroveR.
Pat comes from a singing family and as a child performed in Charity shows.
Before she joined forces with Dave, she performed in various types of band, Theatre etc even singing Jazz songs.
Both are Londoners originally and now reside in Essex.
Smartly attired, each takes lead vocals variously while the other harmonises.
Dave plays guitar excellently, and both have great voices well suited to Country music.
The show tonight included all aspects of Country music including Classic, Cajun,Blues, Bluegrass and New, plus Banjo and Guitar instrumentals.
Songs featured included, Guitars Cadillacs, Bad Moon Rising, Wild Side Of Life , He Thinks He'll Keep Her, Blame It On Your Heart, Margaritaville, Neon Moon, 455 Rocket and If Tomorrow Never comes amongst many. Two Instrumentals featured Dave's own compositions, Mad Billy and Dave's Break.
Amongst my favourites were a Mick Flavin cover, For The Love Of A Song and Two Vince Gill numbers, The Key To Life and The Hills Of Caroline.
This may have been DroveR's first show at our club, but the way they were received by the audience and dancers, I cannot believe it will be the last.
