July 19th 2007 BILL ALEXANDER.

We are always pleased to have tonight's artiste to entertain us as we know he will provide a non - stop delivery of songs old and new, some composed by himself, but all suitable for dancing or listening to.

This evening was no exception as Bill gave us a most enjoyable mix of Uptempo numbers, Ballads etc., some extremely popular and others, forgotten gems of the Country genre. He also provided medleys to sing along to, so every faction of the audience was equally pleased.

Obviously a fan of  Merle Haggard, Bill gave us, Daddy Frank, Big City, Silver Wings, Ramblin' Fever, and The Running Kind. Other popular songs included Billy Joe Shaver's, Ride Me Down Easy, George Strait's, The Fireman and Amarillo By Morning, Gene Watson's, Carmen, and a couple from Mark Chestnutt, Gonna Get A Life, and  It's A Little Too Late.

Lesser known songs I particularly enjoyed included Merle Haggard's, The Hobo, Lefty Frizzell's, I'm Getting Over You, Ernest Tubb's, My Filipino Rose ( also covered by Hank Snow), Johnny Rodriguez's, Louisiana, and Commonly Known As The Blues, Eddie Raven's, We Robbed Trains, Johnny Russell's, Someday I'll Sober Up, and Crystal Gayle's, This Is My Year For Mexico.

Once again we had a wonderful show from Bill who will always be welcome at our club.

 BILL ALEXANDER

November 16th 2006   BILL ALEXANDER

It's three years plus since  Bill last performed at our club, so I was awaiting tonight's show with relish as I have admired his performing since i last saw him in concert.

A native of the St.Andrews area in Scotland he has played guitar since he was thirteen and played in several combos involving his uncle and father, amongst them, Nebraska, The Duke Boys, and Amarillo. He turned professional in 1982 and decided to go full - time as a singer / guitarist in 1994. He prepares all his backing tapes himself, has released a cd  of self- written songs and is currently working on another.

Bill has the smoothest of Country voices you could hope to hear and he always plays songs ideally suited to his dulcet tones.

Tonight he included lots of country standards. Several medleys and ten of his own compositions, all of which were a joy to hear, and which, kept the dancers busy too.

Classics not heard often nowadays included Johnny Rodriguez's, Ridin' My Thumb To Mexico,  Gene Watson's, Memories to Burn,  Lefty's, I Never Go Around Mirrors,  Sonny James's,  If She Just Helps Me Get Over You, (written  incidentally by Don Williams / Allen Reynolds), Moe Bandy's, Many Mansions,  Merle Haggard's, The Longer You Wait,  Buck Owens', Above and Beyond,  Vernon Oxford's, Roll Big Wheel, Roll,  Jimmy Gateley's, Memory Bound and  Eddie Raven's, Bermuda Triangle.

Bill's own compositions included, Play A Sad Song, You're On My Mind, Bayou Waters, Your Memory, Ellie's Smile (dedicated to his grand daughter)  Dreams, Dance Time, Being Next To You, Whiskey and  I Want To Be With You Tonight.          Everyone a gem !
